Those of you who know Hickling will be aware of its idyllic setting next to the canal basin. If you are a keen cyclist, angler, rambler or just enjoy a stroll along the canal then the Plough is the place for you. If you are new to the area we have clear guides for circular walks etc.

Four Pubs used to service Hickling locals and thirsty navvies who used the canal  which winds its way passed the Plough Inn - The Navigator, The Wheel and Old Bowling Green all long since gone but the Plough survives and is a quaint pub which, after it's recent refurbishment and newly added restaurant area is worth going out of your way to visit.

Bill took over the Plough in Nov 08 and gave it a face lift in more ways than one, yet managed to retain many of its original features. There are several bars and eating areas, the small cosy snug with its open fire in winter, spaces to eat in an attractive top bar or just sample the wines and beers. There is also a restaurant area and lounge with comfy sofas, add candle light and you can experience a truly relaxing time.

Check out our Open Mic Nights link above - a regular event every 2nd Thursday where you can just listen to the performers or get up and have a go?

We host birthday parties, special celebration nights and wine tasting.

We will shortly be offering take away Fish and Chips and host live music and barbecues in the summer.

If you haven’t visited in a while then please join us, you can be assured of a warm welcome.
  • The fine ales are varied and extremely well kept, as are the wines from Ann et Vin of Newark. Paul the chef serves excellent home cooked food at very reasonable prices, all tastes are catered for - we could especially recommend the fish and the different selection of pies. All meats and vegetables are locally sourced.
  •
At the rear of the pub there is a large car park, beer garden and a recent addition of a large covered smoking area.

Dogs and children are welcome at the Plough.
